Leipzig to be Quelle AG’s logistic hub for central and eastern Europe
Fürth/Leipzig: Quelle AG (Fürth) changes its logistic tack. From July 01, 2005, the distribution centre Leipzig has been supplying the Polish Quelle company Quelle Polska Sp z.o.o. with catalogue products. This is an important step toward a development of the Leipzig location as a hub for countries in central and eastern Europe. No later than January 2006, Leipzig will also supply Estonia, Latvia and Greece. This new purview means job security and proves the Leipzig Quelle site’s European competitiveness.
“We want to expand our clear leading position in central and eastern European countries. In this context, the distribution centre is going to play a crucial role within our European logistics,“ says Andreas Pötzsch, Quelle AG’s mail-order manager. Quelle Poland is no. 1 among local mail-order markets. Linking this market to the Leipzig distribution centre creates the logistic conditions to secure our Polish company’s huge future growth potential.
Dutch customers have been supplied from Leipzig since July 2004. The Leipzig distribution centre is Quelle’s logistic backbone. During the peak season, more than 180,000 parcels are packed by a staff of up to 2,500 working in two shifts. Since having come on stream ten years ago, more than 220 m parcels have been shipped there.
