Quelle and Neckermann begin to expand on the European market
Fürth/Frankfurt. Quelle and Neckermann are in the process of executing a unique market offensive plan in the European mail order business. The two KarstadtQuelle Corporation companies have stopped plans for the 14 international label entrances for the 2005 and 2006 fiscal years. The focal point of the market offensive plan lies in the countries in middle and south-east Europe.
"We want to concentrate on expanding our top position in the dynamically growing markets of the region while at the same time internationally advancing the entire mail-order business field,” explained Dr. Nathalie Balla, executive manager of Quelle and Neckermann at a press conference covering the goal of market offensive plan. By the end of 2006, Quelle will expand to Bulgaria, Finland, Lithuania, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, and the Ukraine and in the future, catalogues will be offered in Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Poland, and Russia. At the end of the 2004 fiscal year, both Quelle and Neckermann introduced their catalogues to 18 European countries in the countries’ native languages.
In 2004, the KarstadtQuelle Corporation promoted internationalization very successfully. The foreign income in the mail order business field grew according to preliminary calculations- 2.7% to 1.98 Billion euros (from 1.93 Billion euros the year before). The goal is to increase the quota by 28% through organic growth in 2006. The mail-order corporation in middle-eastern Europe showed a stable, positive development throughout 2004. The entrance of the new countries in the European Union and intensified competition of retail industries could not slow down the powerful expansion. The income of the region rose 14% to 214 million euros (from 187 euros in the previous year). An income of 400 million euros, twice of what it is now, is expected for the year 2008.
